Designing a Café - the right equipment

Updated: Mar 18

Dear Folks in Food (FinFos!),

As you zero in to the right cuisine and a detailed menu while planning your café, what makes it all happen is the right equipment.

What equipment do I refer to here? Let's go through a broad list.

  1. In the backend - (industrial) kitchen equipment aligned to your menu such as ovens, stove tops etc, storage units such as chest freezers, refrigerators, RO purifier, geyser, dish washer etc.

  2. At the frontend - Food Display Units (FDUs), Coffee machine, appliances for food assembly such as mixers, microwave oven etc, Point Of Sale (POS) system for billing.

  3. Across the café - Audio-video (AV) equipment such as music system, projector, large screens for content (such as in a sports bar), LED screens for menu, promotions and offers, CCTV etc.

It is a great idea to invest your time and effort in researching for the right make and sizes of these various equipment; and in some cases, working with a kitchen consultant. Some kitchen equipment manufacturers even assist you with customised solutions to your specific needs.

Identifying the right equipment forms the backbone of your future café operations. Budgeting for it early on helps one predict the costs, as well as plan the next step of zoning and layout effectively.

Stay hungry and keep building, dear Folks in Food!
